Asaph Microblogging Solution

PhobosLab have just released the first stable 1.0 of Asaph, a new microblogging solution. Asaph focuses on collecting links and images from other pages. It allows you post content directly from any page you are on. Asaph is not a full blown blog and it does not aim to be one – it just does this one task, but it’s pretty good at it. You can watch the screencast (~5Mb) to see what Asaph looks like. The solution come with two predefined themes, require PHP5 and MySQL and is available for download under the terms of GPL v3.

Earth Day Doodle

The Earth Day from wikipedia is one of two different observances, both held annually during spring in the northern hemisphere, and autumn in the southern hemisphere. These are intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. Google celebrated the Earth Day with a new original Doodle. Hope that we goes green not just on websites.

Microsoft AdCenter API with PHP

Walter Poupore , Lead Programming Writer Microsoft adCenter API, have written a series of articles over the official Microsoft AdCenter API blog about using the AdCenter API from PHP. According to his blog posts, PHP samples in V5 will be released later by May 2008. Until that day, you can find some samples over the API Blog.

Use the YouTube API with PHP

Vikram Vaswani, Founder, Melonfire, have written an interesting article at IBM developerWorks on using the Youtube API with PHP . Notice that a PEAR package Services_YouTube is available if you are looking for a library to use Youtube API with PHP, but is alpha since 2006. The article introduces the YouTube Data API, demonstrates how you can use it to browse user-generated video content; access video metadata, comments and responses; and perform keyword searches. The author used the power of SimpleXML to parse Youtube data and build customized PHP applications.

Beginning PHP and Oracle from Novice to Professional Reviewed

Apress published on August 2007 a great book on PHP and oracle by W. Jason Gilmore, and Bob Bryla. The book, with its 763 pages and 40 chapters, include a full coverage on working with PHP and oracle from novice to professional as the book title indicates. Since I’m working everyday with PHP and Oracle, I spent more time than usual to finish reading the entire book – but I defintely enjoy it.
