One of new products in dhtmlx line will be dhtmlxChart, a cross-browser charting library written in pure JavaScript. This is just a release candidate but you already may try the variety of features included in dhtmlxChart: rich customization capabilities, wide script API, line/bar/pie chart views, tooltips, Ajax support, etc. The component will be available under GNU GPL and commercial licenses (for those who want to use it in non-open source applications). Every day, companies announce new products and call them revolutionary, breakthrough, innovative, and game changing. It’s not often that a new product actually lives up to that kind of billing. Today is one of those days, with the official launch of Alpha Five Version 10, from Alpha Software. Featuring the company’s patent-pending “Codeless Ajax” technology, Alpha Five V10 is the first programming tool that allows developers to visually build rich Internet database applications powered by Ajax – without having to write one line of code. That said, developers who like to get their hands dirty can work swiftly using Alpha’s Codeless Ajax, then optionally craft custom code using popular SQL dialects, JavaScript, REST Services, and Xbasic. Developers can also plug in open source or their own JavaScript code, components, and frameworks to extend the development platform in any way they need. Best of all, the resulting applications support every major SQL database, including the newest: Microsoft SQL Azure databases residing in the Microsoft cloud. “Alpha Five Version 10 with Codeless Ajax is like having an entire development team at your fingertips,” says Richard Rabins, Co-Chairman of Alpha Software. “Just one developer can produce the output of five to 10 coders with Codeless Ajax.

I’m using my netbook very frequently these days (FF3.5 on UNR) and I was just disabling the bookmarks toolbar to have more space as I do in desktop. Last week I tried Meerkat , a Firefox addon that optimize the browser display for netbooks, the idea sounds great ! Meerkat hides the statusbar when there is no activity Removes the menu bar, rebuilt into a drop down button placed on the navigation bar Adds downloads and bookmarks buttons to the right of the location bar, followed by above mentioned menu bar button Reduces the navigation bar icon size to the small setting My only issue was with the ScreenGrab addon since I’m not able to use it anymore from statusbar. I’m not sure about download and bookmarks button since I don’t use at all. I think the best configuration for Firefox on Netbooks will be a fullscreen mode like with taskbar and statusbar visible in the same time. Any better tips to optimize Firefox on netbooks ?

TynT Tracer is an interesting solution which aims to help online content owners get credit for their content and drive extra traffic to their sites. The service is small, simple but very useful ! You to register first in the service then you will get a Javascript code to include in your pages. Once a visitor copy any content from your pages, the scripts will append a “Read more” link and an optional creative commons license if available. Such tools could be more than useful in blogging/journalism since you can automate adding a link back to your site in addition to the ability to monitor your visitors engagements in the website. For this TynT Tracer offer an interesting stats tool that gives you actionable insight into what content your users find most engaging. Be aware, Tynt Tracer track more than “copy” events, because even when you select and highlight any text in the page it will be recorded in their servers. This could be great for content owners to get lots of rich information about their readers, but it could be annoying for users especially if you notice that everytime you select a text a request is sent in the background. If you feel that people are using your content without giving you credit, Tynt Tracer is for you. The service is totally free, and require only registration

If you are not big fan of bookmarking services and you use extensively Firefox tabs, you will notice at a certain time that you really need help to get all these tabs organized. A friend of mine “discovered” last month while closing FF that he got 159 tabs open, and some of them are three months old ! Don’t let your daily browsing kill you, it’s better to get organized since the beginning and use a bookmarking service to save your links. Here is 11 Firefox addons that will help you keep your tabs more organized. 1- HideTab The first tip is a very new Firefox addon that will let you hide and restore tabs. HideTab is an experimental addon, but already do the job and let you hide all of your current tabs by using ALT+Q shortcut. You can use CTRL+ALT+Q to restore them again or simply restore one by one using the HideTab icon in the status bar. 2- FaviconizeTab The second addon will let you reduce tab to show only the favicon, it will not only give you more space but will makes tabs look cooler. The only issue here is with websites without favicons. Keep reading, there are more tips below.

Apress published on August 2007 a great book on PHP and oracle by W. Jason Gilmore, and Bob Bryla. The book, with its 763 pages and 40 chapters, include a full coverage on working with PHP and oracle from novice to professional as the book title indicates. Since I’m working everyday with PHP and Oracle, I spent more time than usual to finish reading the entire book – but I defintely enjoy it.
